Welcome to episode 45 of Silence Is Golden! In this week’s show, Simon and Troy introduce us to Sprint month at Agency Mavericks.
With only one month remaining in 2018, you’re probably feeling as though you need to sprint to get as many projects done as possible. That’s a good place to start, but Troy and Simon explore more ways to close the loop in today’s episode and want to hear from you on what you’re doing to finish 2018 strong.

Welcome to Sprint Month
Whatever you want to call it — the final sprint, closing the loop, getting s*** done — December is the time to get as much off your plate as possible before the new year begins.
Free Webinar This Friday
At the 2.55 minute mark, Simon urges everyone to start working on this sooner rather than later. To help out, he and Andrew Pearce will be hosting a free webinar this Friday at 8 a.m. AEST.
Get all the details on the Close the Loop workshop and reserve your seat here.
Simon’s Plan to Close the Loop on 2018
Simon’s clues us in a bit to his close the loop strategy. It includes:
- Automating bills
- Deleting unnecessary expenses (he’s saved $20k in annual expenses doing this!)
- Removing “Someday” tasks from his list
- Deleting emails
- Ending ill-fitting client projects and firing bad clients
How Will You Close the Loop?
The guys want to know what you’re doing to tackle unfinished business this December. Drop us a note below and let’s see what sort of decluttering techniques everyone is using.
What's Happening Here?
At the 7.00 minute mark, the guys bring us the latest news with a game of “What's Happening Here”.
To start it off, the guys briefly discuss Richard Branson’s claims to send Virgin Galactic passengers to the moon by Christmas.
Then, at 9:20, we’re treated to a video from RMIT and its new Robot Feeding Arm-A-Dine technology.
You can watch the video clip played during the show to get an idea for what’s going on here or you can let Troy sum it up for you:
“There’s only one use for an augmented eating experience with a robotic arm and that is to feed people who are physically unable to feed themselves. This is not about party games or making new friends or eating dinner without looking at your friggin’ mobile phone, you morons.”
Word on the Street
At 13.25, Super Slick/Somewhat Stealthy/[the name still needs work] Simon hits the streets once again. This time, it’s to talk about New Year’s resolutions.
If you’re like many of the respondents who seemed to need a clearer plan of attack for 2019, check out goal setting with MiGoals.
Agency Mavericks Live Event – Coming February 2019
At the 15.25 minute mark, Troy and Simon announce their planned live event, coming to the Newport Beach area on February 16, 2019.
It’s a one-day event for WordPress consultants that want to accelerate their results by:
- Driving up fees.
- Signing better clients.
- Taking on more worthwhile projects.
- Productising their service.
- Building a recurring revenue stream.
If you’d like more details, inquire about it below or get in touch with us on the Facebook page, referencing the “LIVE” event.
The Golden Nugget
At 18.00, we get a look at Episode 115 of the Agency Mavericks podcast, where Gin interviews Carrie Dils about time tracking and management.
As Carrie explains in the clip, it can be very hard staying on track throughout the day if there’s no one around to keep you accountable. And when time equals money, that’s sometimes the only real motivation you have to stay on task.
This is when Carrie introduces Gin to her preferred time tracking tool: RescueTime.
It’s a free application you can configure to track time spent on your computer working on business-related tasks and on all that otherhttps://www.rescuetime.com/ stuff that gets in the way of progress.
Again, bringing it all back to this idea that you need to close the loop, Carrie vouches for the brutal honesty of RescueTime and its ability to help identify where she falls short throughout the workday.
Tool of the Week
At 23.15, Simon introduces another time management tool for this week: Life Cycle App.
Life Cycle App
The Life Cycle app automatically tracks your location and activities through your phone.
It is a location-based app which means that it goes beyond just looking at which software and apps you use as you work on projects. It takes into account things like working hours, sleeping hours and how long it’s been since you last left the house.
Free Webinar Tomorrow!
If you’re interested in attending a free webinar hosted by Troy this week, tune in to the 26.35 mark. He briefly explains what “Learn To Work Smarter… (Not Harder)… In Your Web Design Business!” is about.
Congratulations to Susan Bailey Weaver!
In episode 44 of Silence Is Golden, Troy and Simon promised to give away a free copy of Seth Godin’s latest book, This Is Marketing. The lucky winner of this competition?
Congratulations, Susan! You’ll receive your signed (defaced?) copy of the book soon!
