Number sixty-eight: Tweak Caching for speed
Good day, I'm Troy Dean from Video User Manuals and Agency Mavericks and this is the 101 Ways to Elevate Yourself and Demand Higher Fees: A practical guide for WordPress consultants to start attracting better quality clients, work on better, more interesting projects and get paid better fees. Now, let's go elevate.
Number 68: Tweak caching for speed. Now, caching, caching, however you want to say it. Tomato, tomato, I say caching. Tweak caching for speed because what we do know is that page load times affect search engine results.
So what I would do is run your client's website through a page load insight tool with Google and then tweak the caching plug-ins that are available. Whether it's WP SuperCache or W3 TotalCache and make your client's website faster and then run it through the page insights tool again and then send them a comparative screenshot. “Hey, here's where your website was, here's where it is now, it's much faster which means Google is going to like it and there's more chance Google's going to recommend it because page load times do affect search engine rankings.” So, tweak caching for speed.
Of course, if you're using something like WP Engine, it's a premium WordPress host, then those guys will just take care of it out of the box. Otherwise, grab one of the caching plug-ins and just install it, set the defaults, and your website will be faster, your client's websites will be faster, and most importantly tell them that you're doing this for them.
In the next video, we'll talk about security. Until then, go elevate. Make sure you subscribe to the 101 Ways podcast in the iTunes store. Just search for “101 Ways to Elevate” or visit us at wp101ways.com and download the 101 Ways e-book.
