Number 81: Send your clients the SEOMoz Beginner's Guide to SEO. I'll put a link to this in the show notes, but if you must Google “SEOMoz Beginner's Guide to SEO,” you will find this absolutely beautiful online book and PDF that will teach your clients everything they need to know as a beginner to get their head around the basics of SEO.
This does two things. First of all, it positions you as an expert and someone who has got useful information and resources. And second of all, it makes it much easier to sell SEO services to those clients, because they then understand what it is you're talking about. You don't need to educate them about SEO. You can just sell them your SEO services, and you can start talking about keywords, and linking, and on-page optimization, and off-page optimization, and the importance of social indicators.
You can have those conversations knowing that your client knows enough to understand what you're talking about, and they also know enough to realize that there's a fair bit of work involved, and that's why they should pay a professional like yourself to do it. Or you can partner up with an SEO partner and, you know, give them the work and take a clip of the ticket or an affiliate commission or a spotter's fee on the way through.
