Number fifty-five: Preview Early
Good day. I'm Troy Dean from Video User Manuals and Agency Mavericks, and this is the 101 Ways to Elevate Yourself and Demand Higher Fees: a practical guide for WordPress consultants to start attracting better quality clients, work on better, more interesting projects, and get paid better fees. Now, let's go elevate.
Number 55: Preview early. So I like to show clients what the website's looking like as we're building it. Now it might not be perfect. The images might still have iStock watermarks all over them. The typography might not be quite right. We might be using Lorem Ipsum placeholder text if the client hasn't got their content ready yet. But I like to show them what the website's looking like as we're building it for a couple of reasons.
First of all, it shows them that we're actively working on the project. Second of all, I usually find that if a client's dragging their feet on content and I show them what the website's looking like with iStock images and Lorem Ipsum, that's a big motivator for them to get their content ready, because they want to see the website with their content. They say, “Okay. I know what it looks like with that dummy content. But now I want to see what it looks like with my content.” So it motivates them to get their act together with content.
So preview early. You should send them preview links on the staging server as you're building it and say, “Hey, we're still working on this, but I thought I'd show you what it looks like to see a website that's, you know, halfway through being built. It's still coming together, but this is where it's at, at the moment. No need to give us any feedback yet, because we're still working on it. But I just wanted you to have a look at what we've been doing.”
In the next video, I'm going to reveal the absolute number one plugin that you should be using on every project and why. Until then, go elevate.
