Number five: Define Success
Good day. I'm Troy Dean from Video User Manuals and Agency Mavericks and this is the 101 Ways to Elevate Yourself and demand higher fees, a practical guide for WordPress consultants to start attracting better quality clients, work on better, more interesting projects and get paid better fees. Now let's go elevate.
Number 5: Define success.
So ask your new lead or your new prospect, ‘what is it that will make this successful?' If we're sitting here in twelve months' time and this is a raving success and you absolutely love your new website and it's been an absolute hit and it's made a real difference to your business, what does that look like? What are the key metrics that you are going to measure over the next twelve months to determine whether or not this has been a success or if it's been a complete waste of time and money?
Some of those key metrics might be sales, it might be new customers. It might be percentage of sales that are from new customers versus existing customers. It might be emails collected into a database. It might be search engine rankings. It might be new leads. It might be advertising dollars. It might be new staff. It might be a new branch that you've opened or it might be a new region that you've expanded into, or a new product line that you've expanded into.
What is it that is going to mean that this is a success? How do we know that we have kicked the goal unless we know what it looks like? How will we know when we arrive unless we know what it looks before we get there? So ask your client what does success look like to you? Try to get as much information out of them as possible because the more detailed vision that you can get from them, the more likely you are to propose a solution, which is going to help them get there.
In the next episode, I'm going to reveal probably the most important question you need to ask your client before you start writing any proposals or, in my mind, before I even go and meet with them. This is the number one question that will save you wasting hours with tyre kickers. Until then, go elevate.
