Number forty-nine: Use Premium Plugins
Good day, I'm Troy Dean from Video User Manuals and Agency Mavericks and this is the 101 Ways to Elevate yourself and demand higher fees: a practical guide for WordPress consultants to start attracting better quality clients, work on better more interesting projects and get paid better fees. Now, let's go elevate.
Number 49: Use premium plugins and this isn't just because we sell premium plugins, but I can tell you the amount of time that you will save by using premium plugins absolutely far out weighs the cost of those plugins. The number one reason I believe you should use premium plugins is because the authors of premium plugins have far more skin in the game than the authors of free plugins.
Now, we offer both premium and free plugins and both our free and our premium plugins are very well supported. However our premium plugin users definitely get more of our attention than the people that use our free plugins and that's just the nature of being in business.
So, the number one reason that you should use premium plugins is because you know that that will be well written because the authors of those plugins are relying on sales of those plugins for their livelihood. So, they are going to be good quality products and they're going to allow you to achieve a result a lot quicker than writing your own code and developing your own plugins.
The other reason that you should use premium plugins is because they come with premium support. If you pay money for a plugin you can rightfully expect to get good support from the developer or the author of that plugin. If you're using free plugins you might get half way through a project and you might realize that there's something wrong with the plugin. There might be a bug or it hasn't been updated for the latest version of WordPress and it's conflicting and you might be lucky to get support in the WordPress plugin repository you might not. But you really don't have a leg to stand on if you're using a free plugin.
So, using premium plugins gives you the added security that you can expect good support from the plugin author. So, use premium plugins. They will speed up your development process and they will give you a little more confidence that you've got support there when the time comes that you need it.
In the next video, I'm going to talk about the importance of documenting your processes. Until then, go elevate. Make sure you subscribe to the 101 Ways Podcast in the iTunes store. Just search for 101 Ways to Elevate or visit us at wp101ways.com and download the free 101 Ways ebook.
